Old fashioned bread pudding recipe with bourbon sauce. Place stale bread in a bowl with milk and squeeze the bread with your hand until well saturated with milk. Whisk the eggs sugar cinnamon nutmeg vanilla and bourbon together in a large mixing bowl until very smooth. In a large bowl whisk together first seven ingredients.
Transfer to a greased 4 qt. Add the bread and raisins and let the mixture sit for 2 hours stirring occasionally. Step 5 to prepare sauce combine 1 2 cup sugar corn syrup and butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. With an electric mixer on high speed in a separate bowl beat eggs with sugar until thick. In a small bowl add the cornstarch and cup of bourbon and mix together until cornstarch has dissolved and pour in the heavy cream mixture and bring to a simmer.
Spoon mixture into a greased 3 quart casserole. Set aside for 5 minutes. Add the half and half and mix well.
Bring to a simmer. Pour mixture into the prepared pan. Remove from oven and cover with aluminum foil until ready to serve.
Cool in pan at least 20 minutes before serving. Add cream milk and sugar to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Combine bread and milk in a large mixing bowl.
