Recipe For Old Fashioned Eggnog
Place bowl in an ice water bath.
Recipe for old fashioned eggnog. Stir frequently until cool. Stir in rum bourbon or cognac and remaining 2 cups milk. Set egg whites aside.
Add the milk cream and nutmeg and beat together until smooth and well combined. In a heavy saucepan whisk together the eggs sugar and salt. Stir in vanilla nutmeg and remaining milk.
Beat the egg yolks and the sugar until smooth. Add sugar amd salt. Stirring constantly cook over low heat until mixture coats the back of a metal spoon and reaches 160 on a candy thermometer.
Gradually add 1 qt. Separate egg yolks and egg whites. Pour into a large bowl.
Cook and stir over low heat until a thermometer reads 160 about 25 minutes.
